Id like to do some active crossing and was wondering what sonic differences there might be between the XM1 and a pro xo like a <$100 Behringer, ART or similar? The flexibility of the pro unit would be nice, but Id rather trade that for improved performance. I dont mine soldering, resistor swapping or building a PS. Just want the best sound. So what degradation is there is a lesser xo?

If you use the XM1 or the boards available in the group buy you can use the best hi performance opamps and passive components available. You can also build a very good power supply. The Behringer is certainly versatile but it has comprimises in parts quality because it was built to meet a price point.

I have multiple XM-9s. A couple needed some service so I grabbed a Behringer 2310 as a temporary fix. Expecting the worst I was amazed that there was no audible difference in the sound quality between the Behringer and the Marchand it replaced.

I went from a XM 16 threeway to the behringer dcx 2496 - could not hear any changes. Just a hell of a lot more flexibility incl. phase correction and time delay - automatically. Can get it now for 245$

The active filter boards look great, but they are far more complex than I currently need.
If the differences are that minimal, I suppose I will give the Behringer CX2310 a try. Ive been interested in the dcx 2496 but they have been out of stock forever. For just $250 they do seem a bargain - if you can find one. amt |
