Default Kinda OT, Room Deadening for Speakers???

Sorry to post this here, but I didn't know where to put it. Here's the story...

My roomie and I are converting our garage into a bar, complete with beer on tap, full bar and...the kicker....a killer stereo.

We don't want to **** the neighbors off so we're looking for a cost effective way to deaden a lot of the sound. We're not looking at building new walls or anything crazy since we're working wiht a college budget.

We're starting with a bare exterior wall and exposed 2x4's since the garage is uninsulated and the walls are covered with some nasty wood panneling form the 70's.

We're insulating the exterior walls, so I'm sure that will help, but we're looking for a little more. My idea was to use that black board that seems to be fiberglass soaked in asphalt over the insulation and under the sheet rock to kill a bit more sound. Would that be worth the cost (about $9 for a 4x8 sheet) or is there something better that woudl work for the price?

The cheapest thing to do is insulate and put 2 layers of 5/8" sheetrock on top. If the garage door doesn't need to be functional, you'll want to build a wall behind it and insulate and use the same 2-layer sheetrock design on both sides.

If the garage door is the only way into the garage, you'll want to add a solid wood or metal door to the wall you build.
