Default Want to try out a new speaker design, give me pointers

Hey all, it's time to take a break from the trunk beaters and get back into hi-fi. Last time I fooled around with the hivi full ranges (B3S and B3N), I didn't find the low bass extension I like. So here's what's up next, I'd li ke you to critique this for me:

D'appolito design with:

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=295-360

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=275-070

All through a 2nd order LR filter in a floorstanding design. I haven't made the a design yet, just looking to see if these are comprable drivers.

Not much bass to be had here either, unless you are doing something tricky on the crossover design. PS think about either a notch or a much steeper LPF for the midbass, lots breakup due to metal cone.

So what would you suggest in that case? 4th order?

Or what about one 6" centered with the same tweeter? I really couldn't push those two 5"s if I wanted to (100 watt/6ch 3 yr old receiver here)

I think there is a design using RS180's in an MTM alignment on a another site ( Home Theater or something) So you could find it and scale it for your smaller drivers. Should be better for the tweeter to use your smaller drivers you can cross it a little higher up.

Not sure if I can afford even two of the 7's (yes I know the dual 5's are more expensive, but I can get them for very cheap secondhand from my neighbor who didn't use all of the 6 he got (still new)) as I'm only 17 and couldn't get a job this summer. Still need to build a box for my RL-P (I say it like that so that if I ever need any cash, I can just unhook it form the ep2500 and sell it as is to a teenager who wants it in his trunk), so we'll see. Thanks for the help.

MTM's are not easy to design period. And then using metal cones to boot adds a few more layers of complexity. Keep looking for designs/ and recommendations around here. You can build something nice for not too many$.

probably much easier to filter, and one of these will outperform 2 of the daytons you mentioned:

OK, got crossover suggestions? ... ready made or DIY ... in conjunction with a bodacious sub woofer & bright, high res. tweeter with a knee @ about 4K.
