I've been using 13M/8640 midranges for many years and, as the surrounds are looking a bit tired, I'm looking for replacements. The current 13M/8640 is nothing like the early version I have, and I'm wondering whether it is as good - or better? Why did SS produce such a different unit without changing the label?
I'd also welcome suggestions of other mid drivers which are worth consideration and which will cover 300 - 4500Hz or so. Thanks. |

Can't answer for the surrounds, but on the matter of high performance midrange drivers in the band you describe, both Seas (excel series midrange), and Accuton has highly regarded drivers used in many extraordinary systems. Both brands are as expensive as Scan-speak, so they are probably not the best value around if $$$ counts..
