Default Anybody use Zaph's B3S's for home theater?

I've been wanting to build a set of Zaphs B3S speakers for a 6.1 setup. With it's discrete unobtrusive size it is exactly what i'm looking for. The price is perfect as well. I could probably build all 6 speakers for under $200. Has anybody else used these speakers for theater usage?

IMO, Zaphs B3S design doesn't get loud enough for HT use.

It could work if you use two drivers per speaker instead of one. Wire the notch filter in series with one of them, and wire the BFC circuit (less resistor) in series with the other. Then wire the two in parallel. The impedance will drop to about 4 ohms in the midbass, but your receiver should handle it.

My definition of "loud enough" is 85db at the listening position with 10db headroom. Assuming your listening position is 2m from the speakers, Zaph's B3S design can manage 74db/watt. The B3S can handle 15wrms, which is just enough to get you to 85db, but leaves no headroom.

Using two drivers gets you 85db with 8 watts, and 6db of headroom.

Just for fun, a pic of my B3S project.

Would the Aura NS3-193's be a better choice? They wouldn't need a notch filter, just a little BSC.

The Aura's also won't get loud enough for satisfying HT, unless we are talking computer speaker-type nearfield.

Try one of the small 2-way systems also listed on Zaph's site.

The price goes up to $50 per speaker for parts, but you could look at this project.

In keeping with the small 1-way design, I guess the good old w3-871 is my only viable option? With it's sensativity quadruple that of the Aura or HiVi.
