Default Speaker magnetism

Hi, this is my 1st post here. Lovely to be here.

I hope some one can please help me. I bought a new mini system, with subwoofer. My manual says don't place speakers near TV or pc's etc, due to magnetism.

What is this? Also how near can I go to the TV with the speaks and subwoofer?

Thank you in advance, for any help you can please provide me with.

The image of your TV set tells you when it's too close. No damage done when it happens. Just move the sub or speakers away a bit further. 1 meter/3 feet should be enough for large speakers. Again, first sentence applies.

No need to worry.

The whorst that could happen is to get magnetized your monitor (TV or PC). This will tell you that your speakers are to close to it.

Demag the monitor is so easy. I use the magnet of a speaker unit, hanging it in a twisted cord, in order let it to give turns a lot when released.

Then I put the turning magnet close to the magnetized zone and move it away from the monitor.

Depending on the magnet size, it is possible that the image looks too much distorted as the turning magnet is close to the monitor, but will change to normal as far you move away the magnet.

I hope you donīt cope with such a situation, but if it happens some solutions exist.

Regards,

Hugo

"Spinning magnet" is a better concept than "turning magnet"

Yes, as the others have said, you will see on the colors of your TV when you are too close. If you still desperately want to put the speakers close, and if you know that they will stand still in that position, you can even adjust your TV for that. Most TVs and CRT monitors have a demagnetization function that is activated when you switch on the power. This function cancels any static magnetic field, such as he earth magnetic field by magnetizing the iron parts of the TV to cancel it. If you use this function withthe speakers present, it will also cancel the field from the speakers.

All within reasonable distances, of course.

If you do this, and then remove the speakers, the image will appear in wrong colors again. It is then easy to think that the TV is ruined, but after a few ons and offs it is usually back to normal.
