2 bass speakers on the side

Hi guys,
I am planning to use a small full range speaker and two 8" bass speakers on the side of a new vented design. They will be placed back to back (this to keep the front small). What is the best way to connect these guys? Do they need to be connected in phase or not and in parallel or in series? Do you know the advantages or problems with the different methods and what does this mean for the Vb of the box?
What will the loss in loudness be when placing the units on the sides and how about the introduced delay? What is the maximum frequency for the X-over and what order should preferably be implemented in this case?

Any info is more than welcome, because I can't seem to find a lot about this subject.

In phase. And series or parallel depending on your amp. If parallel you will halve the impedance, in series you will double the impedance. it depends on the ohm rating of the speaker and ohm capability of the amp.

series/parallel does not affect box size. two side firing woofers will cancel forces on enclosure(in phase)

No loss in loudness until the off axis response of woofers start to drop below on axis response. The delay will be slightly larger than front mounted woofers. The sound will eminate from the voice coil (acoustic center) so just measure the distance from the vc of woofer to the front of the baffle and measure the depth of the full range speaker from baffle to vc (unless given). the difference will be close to the actual delay.

What is the maximum frequency for the X-over and what order should preferably be implemented in this case?

As low as possible, I cant give you an exact frequency but from reading many other posts if you crossover your subwoofers higher than 100hz they will become more localizable. It sounds like you might be using these at higher frequencies though so keep this in mind.
