Default "Unknown" speakers

Hi.

I found these two units on the www. They sell at a fair price but there is no data on them.

The www-shop tells me that it's Skytec speakers but I cant find any info on the web (Google).

They are 5 1/4 " bass-units and rated at 150W and 200W. I'll bet this month salary that they'll burn if tested with 150W sine, but the motor-structure looks impressing none the less.

So, any ideas? I'm tempted to buy two of the "kevlar" units just for fun, but some kind of credible data would be useful.

I would like to use the kevlar unit with a small efficient (>93db/W) dome/horn. Any ideas in the cheap-but-respectable range? Maybe something from IMG/Monacor? I would prefer something "smooth/non-metallic/soft" etc., and NOT a "screaming" horn/dome.

Regards TroelsM

Hi Lionel.

Thanks for the fast answer. Seems to be the Skytronic.

Have you got any experience with the these units?

Any guesses on the Vc-diameter?

They "look" nice, but looks are know to be deceiving..

There is a page to find your local stockist.

Hi,

I bought my brother a pair to replace some drivers in his speakers.

His opinion was that they seriously do look the business (massive
magnet, large voicecoil) but he also thought they might be rejects
as the finish wasn't too good, my opinion is simply they are cheap.

http://www.wle-shop.co.uk/modules/sh...odcode=902.420

I haven't heard them yet (its a long story of poor delivery and
damaged drivers) but from from what he says the specifications
are in the right ballpark, i.e. they are not particularly efficient
and do have decent bass power handling in a small sealed box.

/sreten.

edit :

http://www.skytronic.co.uk/product/p....php?s=902.195

by implication the voice coil is 1.5" diameter.

Hi Sreten.

Wow, - that even cheaper than my danish supplier (~9£).

About the efficiency: they seem to be around 90dB. - that OK in my book, but with the large motor the efficiency should be better.

At the price it wont hurt to try a few.

Hi

Sorry Sreten, but I don't get it. What do you mean?

The Xmax for the 5" is around 3.5mm. Not a lot, but ok for a 5", -or?

Regards TroelsM

Hi,

you have a massive magnet but they aren't particularly efficient.

A real 3.5mm one way (if it is one way) is very good for a cheapo driver.

Also note cone mass is high (therefore Vas low) for a 5" driver, both of
which mean decent bass in small cabinets at the expense of efficiency.

/sreten.
