Hmm... I'm thinking of a 3-way waveguide/dipole hybrid design like so:

- compression driver (B&C DE610-8?) up top behind an 18 Sound XT1464
- 15" pro driver (B&C 15PS76?), dipole, under waveguide
- 4-driver (Dayton RSS390HF-4) W-baffle underneath, Orion-style

Active digital crossover points at 40Hz (sealed below), 150-175Hz, 1.5kHz (like in the Summa). Too bad Dayton doesn't do their own "good" pro drivers. With enough power, there should be at least 110dB at 4m, open field.

" 1.5kHz (like in the Summa)."

The Summa XO is at 900 Hz.

For 1.5kHz you could use the smaller XT1086.

Look at Eighteensound drivers also as alternative to B&C.

I have a system in the works using 18Sound 12ND710 and BMS 4552ND on XT1086 horn, XO still to be determined.

Will post about it when complete.

Right, the waveguide is 90x90 (IIRC), now that I think about it. The XT1464 is 50x60, and the off-axis response matches up closer at 1.5kHz than at 900Hz, though.

I hadn't looked at the XT1086, thanks. Are there any North American dealers for 18 Sound stuff?

Usspeaker.com and Loudspeakersplus carry a few of their things.

The latter will order anything of theirs from Italy but you'll have to wait til they've got a big enough total order to make it worth their while.

They just placed an order a few days ago; they say it could be 30-60 days til the next one.

Default question for CGL

Hello CGL,

I'm interested to learn more about your 18S XT1086 + BMS 4552ND speakers. I'm thinking to use them also but I need some help and advice. Could you sent me an email?

kind regards,

Jacob

Well speak of the devil. not exactly hifi but it's the latest to come out of the garage. Just working on the XO and padding now. All Selenium but not their good stuff.

You might want to consider the higher end Selenium stuff. I hear it's a good price point.
