Default good sounding professional woofers ?

Following this thread, basically What about Eminence for home audio

my question is" are there professional speakers (woofers & fullrangers) that have all the advantages of professional speakers, sound decently and don't cost a fortune ? "
It looks to me that cost of PA speakers is basically proportional to power handling, not necessarily to sound quality. It this correct ?

So, if one doesn't need 500W (I bet most people don't need more than 50 !) it should be possible to get an efficient, good sounding, dynamic 12"-15" woofer for~100$? All I want is a rock solid, dry 50 Hz not a boomy, slow plastic cone trying to get down to 30Hz.

Or is there something that's not on the spec sheet and explains for the insane price $$$ of JBL and Electrovoice ?
PA drivers are sooo tempting...

Hi,

the cost of high efficiency is poor bass extension for cabinet size,
but if your prepared to accept very large cabinets then you can
use high efficiency drivers.

For decent bass you are going to need bass (guitar) drivers.
something with an Fs nearer 30Hz than the typical PA ~ 55Hz.
Needs a very big box though.

Checkout the Eminence Beta 15, (now called the CB15).

IMHO Selenium gives good bang for the buck. I have 8 of their drivers and have no complaints

The Eminence Delta 12LF is at your price. I have looked at this driver but not tried it yet. It is very flat except for a 2KHz peak that should be knocked down by the crossover. It has good Xmax being designed for bass, but does not require an overly large box. This would be my choice!

Good Luck,
Kent

Or try a coaxial 12" PAudio BM12CXA ....is fast,is more linear than any Eminence or Beyma, solid construction, titanium tweeter, and have good results. But you need a little more money for that.......it's a very good driver for home.

felixx,

Is it possible to be more detailed in comparison BM12CXA with Beyma?

P.S. BTW, the thread subject says about woofer.

The coax. system resolve the phase problems of the tweeter, but this is another story. The specs. of BM12CXA is very good and with a little effort you could have bass down to 45hz but not boomy....pure bass.
This driver is very linear and had a very good spl. not only from paper and with low power-15-20W -the entire living is shaking.

Look at the grafics.

Hey Cal. Do you have either of these Selenium 15s in a box? How big a box did you need?

I have the Selenium 15" coax, now discontinued. It is a middleweight and has a steel basket. Can be eq'd quite nicely. Great for reinforcement.

I have the WPU 1507 QFC in the Altec A7 cabinet. It's more of a heavyweight and really gets that old cabinet singing.

I don't have the woofers that I posted but with the quality I see in the drivers I do have, I was hoping they would offer the same quality for the money. They come from Brazil so that might offer a clue as to their good price point.

I know others with similar Seleniums and they agree that they seem to offer value for the money. My avatar is the mouth of the A7 with the driver in place.
