Default All foam surround kits created equal?

Well this is late but nevertheless I am curious.

I just refoamed my Infinti Poly 10" woofers with new foam. It wasn't too bad and a lot cheaper than the local speaker shop wanted to do it for me.

They did say that they use surrounds that were nearly identical to the original Infiniti ones. It made me consider it but I declined.

Now I am just wondering should that have been a serious consideration?

As far as I know, these drivers are not "long throw" or anything special. They are in an acoustic suspension setup though, not reflex.

Thanks!!

HI Fella, first off, how do your new woofers sound? Same as before? If so, don't worry about it. Suspension types & grades do make a difference in performance, but I won't bother getting longwinded about it here. I'd be more worried about how old the foam was you bought. It may be "new" but it could have been sitting on a shelf for two years. Bottom line is if they sound satisfactory to your ear then enjoy your music!

Thanks! The foam looks brand new and three oout of the four drivers went well. Unfortunately on the fourth one, the polyolefin cone detached from the coil down by the spider and I have to send it in for repair. As each speaker utilizes two acoustically suspended 10" drivers, I'll have to be patient and wait for it to come back but I will definitely post on how the sounds.

The new foam does feel a bit stiff and I read somewhere that there is break in but the cones run true and the coil moves perfectly.

And yes the repair was cheap and easy- so far!
