I am search for a 12" sub drive with the Largest Xmax (over 13mm one way),the lowest Fs, highest efficiency that I can find, so for the best I have found is the one spec'ed below.

Does anyone know of a 'better' driver given the requirments?

Thanks,
Brian

You don't give any indication of a price range but here are some options:

Blueprint 1201: Xmax = 16mm for $91
Stryke SAE1204: 14.3mm for $109
Adire Shiva: 15.8mm for $125
NHT1259: 13mm for $150
Stryke AV12: 23mm for only $140 on pre-order ($175 normal)
Stryke SAL: 14mm for $179
Blueprint 1203: 26mm for $219
Adire Tumelt: 34mm (!) for $499

All these drivers have various pros & cons so look around the manufacture's web sites for more info. Most manufactures also have other drivers that I haven't listed here.

You say you want high efficiency but you must understand that high efficiency and deep bass means a large box. There's no getting away from it, I'm afraid...

Nice one,
David.

WolfmanX, the main advantage is box size, which is cut in half. There's a possible advantage that even-order distortion is reduced because of the face-to-face mounting but I don't know how real this is. On the down side you lose 3dB sensitivity and have twice the cost in drivers. I really only did it this way because I had the drivers and can't deal with large boxes right now.

Infinite baffle: put say 10,000L box size into your simulator. Some pics:

Hope this helps! What is your application?

if you want low low frequency extension, tune it really low, and make a very large slot port to reduce port noise.. this plot is a brahma in 11cubes, tuned to 18hz (15"x5"x49") port.. given 500Wrms itll put out 115db across the board all the way down to 15hz.. p2p xmax on this sub is about 57mm, so itll be fine in that department.. this sub has gained a famous reputation in car audio and makes an excellent ht sub--

I know that the Adire Tumult is a 15", but it is one scary driver with a huge Xmax!

the pictures say it all:

Too bad you missed the pre-order that ended on the 15th...

Why would a sub that good have a foam surround? I can never understand that and I don't like the foam surrounds :redhot: Even a $500 Focal 15" has one, but the 13" doesn't for some reason (forgot what model).

Dayton Titanic MK II is a very good one. They sell them at partsexpress.com for about $150, but partsexpress auctions them off on ebay for less.

Aren't home threater sub about "quantity rather than quality"? I read that somewhere. So most people would preffer a vented sub. But I don't blame you I like sealed much better also.

You might be able to get the Titanic for around $100 on ebay if you want to take the time and paticence. I always go with ebay when I can. Although I'm looking for 2 15" subs that go in a sealed box. And 15's are almost impossible to find on ebay. Well the kind I'm looking for. Desent quality, home audio.
