in a tmm configuration(5.5" woofer) does the fact that the second woofer is 5.5" or more from the tweeter have any negative effects

You didn't mention if this is a 2-way or 2.5-way design.

2-way TMM designs are generally a bad idea because the effective driver center of the woofers is further away from the tweeter, causing a very narrow vertical listening window, among other power response issues.

2.5-way TMM designs don't have this issue, other than a mild downward tilt of the lobe in the lower midrange.

The optimum configuration is actually a 2.5-way MTM, which eliminates all problems related to using two woofers with one tweeter.

In a TMM, the second woofer is better used as a 0.5 woofer to assist in baffle step and reinforce the bass. If you want to use both woofers covering the same frequencies, then I believe a MTM is the preferred method.

Zaph,

How would a 2.5 MTM work? Would you roll-off the top woofer sooner then the bottom woofer (so you end up with a TM at higher freq.)?
