Default speakers in need of Help

Hi all,
im new here so please be kind and humour me...

I have three sets of speakers that are in need of repair:
Rogers ls8a with a woofer that is dead
B&W DM100 that has a malfunctioning woofer that sounds like the coil is broken ( scratchy sound with heavy bass)
Kef Coda 2 with a dead tweeter.

So i though what the heck how hard can it be to repair, so i bought a multimeter and a solder iron as well as keeping an eye out on ebay for replacement drivers. Not easy to find repacements and it may end up costing more than the speakers to go this route..

I would really appreciate any advice as its starting to **** me off not having a fully working pair of speakers to listen to. Should i cut my losses and sell the drivers seperately on ebay?

KEF will sell you replacement drivers. Might be cheaper to pick up another pair of complete speakers used though, if you can get them for dirt price.

i especially want to get the rogers ls8a speakers working as they are my main speakers...and I really love them. Their 3 way speakers and its the bas driver thats gone so i still get half decent sound out fo them but I'd really like to get them working fully..

You will more than likely find that the speakers are push-on terminals on the drive units, certainly the KEF will be.

Hi,

If the LS8s look like the above they are probably 2.5 ways not 3 ways.

In that case substituting another driver for the lower bass unit,
you would need two, is possible if the units are carefully chosen.

Hopefully its one of the lower units that gone.

l know rogers are now defunct so exact replacement drivers will be nigh on impossible to get, unless you become very lucky in which case buy a lottery ticket seriously though you should get in touch with wilmslow audio who may be able to suggest something in the way of driver replacemnent cheers and good luck TC

cheers for the input lads...

yeah thats the speakers alright..theyre beauts eh?
2.5way? shows what i know

It is the bottom bass driver thats not working so thats probably a good thing as you say. Ill ask wimslow as i see they mention rogers on their site..

Ive found one or two sites on the net explaining how to repair the voice coil..has anybody tried this themselves?

Shows what I know, they are indeed 3-way, modified (?) sealed loading.

But i'm confused as to how they've implemented a 3-way crossover
with the same number of components (8) as the 2-way LS4a/2.

theyre so little information on rogers speakers on the web that the site is my reference for all things Rogers...

tbh i dont have a clue how the crossover works but i do wonder if perhaps something in the crossover is malfunstioning..i guess i can figure that out when i swap them round - the driver is soldered to the wires so ill need to resolder them back in - would normal solder from a hardware store work ok?

sorry for all the q's
