For a 4K system, Bose acually gives VERY little information about what it can really do.

Last I read, the awsome Bose bass cube went way down in the 50Hz range.

Bottom line, you can do a LOT better for a LOT less cash. Bose is a very reconized brand name and I have to give way more credit to the CEO of Bose for keeping things alive then I do the acual product. I'll never buy Bose again in my life, but I really gotta hand it to to the Company to convince people that they are the shiznit in pure home audio quality. Oh and the 3.2.1 system and the price. GIVE ME A FREAKEN BREAK. I have to agree that a Onkyo home theater in a box is better for $500 then a Bose system that cost thousands. If you can spend 1K, to 1.2K you can go to Fry's and get in to the Harmon Kardon or Denon home theater in a box. I'd choose it over Bose drunk, dead, MIA, POW, anything!!!!

I have a pair of 101s that I got about 10 years ago. They are good enough for the bathroom, and that's about it.

What is the main needs of this system? What type of TV, DVD player does your GF have?

If she just wants to hear decent 5.1 (that's all Bose is at insainly high prices), then this "might" just work.

I might pick up a pair for myself tonight. Depending on the WAF.

For a amp, you can do this. http://www.shoponkyo.com/detail.cfm?productid=HT-R330&modelid=23&group_id=1&detail=1&ext_war=1

A 4K bose system would sound better, but not by much. It is nearly worth the extra cost. The Bose tricks people because it does have a smooth sound and they can hit some clear notes, but when it comes to a real home theater, they are just not it.

I am looking in to this setup for all of our game systems, regular TV playback ect. Unless you have a big room to fill, or your GF has high standards for sound quality, this should do the trick.

Ah, Bose Bashing.... A favorite sport on so many audio forums.

I do agree that the Bose home stuff is awful. Cheap crap, clever marketing.
The pro stuff is just "O.K." Like so many pros, I used the good old Bose 802s for more years than I wish to count. Decent, but very midrange heavy and prone to feedback.

As we say in the biz. "No highs, no lows - must be Bose!"

Execpt ---- There was one pair of Bose pro units I toured with in the early 90s. Called "Acoustimass" before the home line got the name. This was the first powered speaker I'd ever used. Much like a big 802-901 but with a LF driver and amp inside. VERY loud! Also plenty of detail and pretty good tonal balance. Sometimes even Bose get it right. ;)
