Default Measurement microphone

Hy boys, could you suggest me a good measurement microphone ? I'm not able (yet ) to autoconstruct one, so I must buy it but my culture is not so good here.

I'd like a microphone that mounts panasonic WM61A capsule (or similar) because I saw that WM60 was not so good (and it seems the same capsule mounted on ECM8000).

I wanted a microphone of about 100Euro/150Euro max (otherwise I shall think to B&K ) but a good measurement microphone.

Any suggest about it ?

Thanks

The Panasonic WM-60 is not available anymore. The WM-60 was a bit more linear than the WM-61. A microphone for measurment needs to be calibrated. I would recommend the EMM-8 cal from Ibf Akustik, it is 65 € when calibrated. www.ibf-akustik.de

Thanks. I've heard about IBFacoustics and I know their site, but what kind of microphones are they ?
Do you know what kind of capsules they mount ?

Is that calibrator a source of MLS signals ?

They have been using the Panasonic WM-60 capsule earlier. I do not what they use nowdays (maybe they still have some?). They do not modify the capsules like Siegfried Linkwitz (www.linkwitzlab.com). That modification would allow for higher sound level.

Hummm... I've wrote to them and they told me that they dunno the capsule mounted on their microphones

But from what they have written I think is WM60 (S/N ratio 58 dB, max SPL 120dB ecc.)

Excuse me, but could you say me something about other microphones that mount WM61A ?

(NB: what is the minimum SPL that ECM8000 (or WM60) can measure ? Could these microphone measure under 40dB SPL) ?

I am certainly not the right person to tell... WM-60 and WM-61, both have a noise floor that is rather high, like most cheap 1/4" capsules. Maybe MBC-550 is a better choice? Price is around 300 € and you will have to calibrate it.

Default Measurement microphone

I am also looking for a measurement microphone.

I noticed the BEHRINGER ECM8000 available at Parts Express for U$ 50.-

Any comments or experience to share about it?

Rodolfo

I've seen the MBC-550 but it's too expensive for me (above 500€ and more) and I think it uses a Panasonic capsule, too.

A microphone of interest would be the Earthwork m30 but it is a 580€ microphone
I don't know if it works well. What kind of capsule does it mounts ?
Is it a 1/2" microphone ?

Above all, what does it means the "sensitivity" parameter ?

Behringer ECM-8000 was using a Panasonic WM-60 capsule earlier. Must be some other capsule today as the WM-60 is not produced anymore. You can read more about the Behringer and Panasonic here: http://www.ele.tut.fi/~artoko/audio/...crophones.html

You can get the MBC-550 a bit cheaper here: http://www.audiobile.com/product_inf...808&cPath=1654

From Ibf Akustik you can have a calibrated ECM-40 for 110€.

With these three microphones you will need phantom supply. The MBC-550 seems to have the lowest noise level. I have not seen a 6 mm (1/4”) capsule with a low noise level. Earthworks or Bruël & Kjaer are expensive…. Noise levels of these are also high. http://www.earthworksaudio.com/28.html http://www.bksv.com/pdf/Bp1851.pdf

This is what I'm using from Bamberg Labs.

Saves you a lot of heartache.
