Ya'll said it couldn't be done! But i have done it, a two way with an altec lansing 288c compression driver from 500 up and with a Dayton 12" hifi playing from there down!
The crossover range was a big worry but as it turns out the midrange is only very slightly touchy when it comes to soft female jazz vocals. Which I know is a terrible shame! However, these speakers rock! they are not ever shy! I am groovin to the double kick drum part in metallica's fuel. The heartbeat on the dark side of the moon is butter. Almost like you are inside a heart. The upper stuff is done with a nice driver on a nice tractrix horn, and it sounds nice! I promise pictures are to come once i get a decent listening room setup! also, just now as i was listening to some soft jazz, I was noticing like during some points it sounded like her voice was split up and very fuzzy at the bottom. I couldnt EQ it out... so i swapped the polarity! much better I suppose the crossover area was cancelling and leavingall the upper junk coming from the 12" to shine through... |
