Question Components needed for this kinda project?

I am looking to build some home theater surround sound speaker system. But I was wondering, what kinda drivers and components would I need in order to beat the likes of any speakers from Circuit City or Best Buy? You know mostly the main stream stuff, Polk, Infinity, ect... Any suggestions? (I'd like to be able to beat them in both price and performance )

As one complete n00b to another, I will just say that i don't think you will get a ton of traction on this question, until you
a) do a bit more research
b) get more specific w/ your requirements (price comes to mind, but possibly other stuff... room size, you want 5.1 or ?).

I will point you to two of my favorite sites as I have started to venture into diy speakers...
www.partsexpress.com (browse their projects, looks at their prices, etc)
www.zaphaudio.com

good luck.

Blake,

You've got three threads going simultaneously on essentially the same topic. Are you just attacking the issue from all angles and seeing which question gets you the answers you want to hear?

So, you want copper coloured drivers, that aren't too bright sounding, for home theatre in a bigish room.

I have one answer for all your criteria: FR125s with some sort of subwoofer(s). I would go for the Frs in 9 litre sealed enclosures and they ought to be good down to 100 Hz to crossover to your subs.
