Default A program to simulate baffle step

Hi everybody, do you know a program (or Excel spreadsheet) to simulate the baffle step effect after a near field measurement ?

Until now I've used Audio For Windows, but I had to export the graphics in text mode and with a resolution of only 256 points !!

Do you know a program that can simulate this effect with a res of (ex.) 1000 points ?

Thanks
Bye

There is an excel spreadsheet (Last I looked it was called Beta6.07-278.xls) at the FRD Consortium's web site.

I have simulated and measured designs and there is good correlation. You could take manufacturers frequency response plots, simulate your box volume, simulate the baffle, simulate the crossover, and the results are surprisingly similar to reality.

In other words finding this tool was a happy day for me.

Anyway , there is another program out there called the Edge. It is less complex than the spreadsheet and easier to use.

You might use the (very convenient) program written by our fellow DIYer SVANTE:

Thanks boys, but I know these programs. The problem is that these programs cannot import the measurement of the speaker. I'd like to simulate BS using the real speaker curve.

In fact, as we know, BS effect is (almost) in lowest frequencies and for these frequencies, if we don't own an anechoic chamber, a measurement in near field is needed. And in near field we don't see the BS effect

So I need to do a NF measurement and then import the measurement in a program that correct it with BS effect. Until now I used Audio For Windows, but the export res. is limited by only 256 pixels !!

Your plan sounds OK. Make sure you disregard your NF measurements above the cutoff.

I find baffle step effects with my setup's spread over about 100-700Hz, but this is just an example.

My experience is with the spreadsheet, and I did edit my FRD files as text, by hand. It is a one off type of operation so I haven't minded doing it (yes, this doesn't answer your Q).

I also find SPLtools with SPLtrace useful.

Before you start creating data files, I would decide on a resolution, (such as 60 data points or whatever across the spectrum), and force your programs to use that. Many will just use what they have on hand which is good.
