Default Need Seas P17REX Help!!

Hi,

I ordered a pair of Seas P17REX from Wilmslow Audio but after about 2 weeks they have told me that they don't have any and Seas are discontinuing it but will have a final production run and I can have a pair if I wait till June.

I can't wait till June as I am making these speakers for someone else! I have already made the box for them so I really need to get these drivers or ones with the same spec and sound just as good.

Where oh where can I buy a pair of these drivers in the UK?? Even S/H is fine!

Thanks!

Well you got my hopes up, but it seems they have a new website and on that site they say they have limited their Seas range now No P17REX!

Any other options?

Hi,

no further sources as far as I can tell.

Perhaps a better option is to fit something else to the boxes.

Seems to me your boxes should suit :

or possibly :

It has been discontinued because it it being replaced by the vastly improved P18RNX/P.

I've had one of these sitting in my closet for a while which I will be testing someday. I couldn't say if it would be a drop-in replacement, but it might be close.

Oh, I guess Madisound still has the P17REX too. They have no problem shipping overseas if you really need that driver.

Thanks for the help!

The P18RNX looks quite good but the bass extends about 5Hz less than the P17REX. It doesn't sound like a lot but I think the difference between 40Hz and 35Hz extension is significant. the main reason I don't think I will go for it though is that I don't want to wait for delivery from abroad.

The L18RCY and L18RNX look pretty good though. The only thing I don't like about them is the really bad break up from about 5KHz upwards. Zaph, did you find this audible or was it not as bad as it looks? I was hoping to get away with a 1st order crossover around 800Hz.

Now if I did go for one of these, which do you think would be better? In the enclosure I have built I can change the port length a bit so that is not so much of an issue. The L18RNX goes deeper but unlike most drivers that seem to drop by about 3dB from 100Hz down then have a peak this one just rolls-off gently from 100Hz down so although it is still giving good output to about 30Hz (-5dB) I am worried that with room gain it would be very bloated sounding around 50Hz upwards. I have attached a graph of what each driver does. What do you think would sound best?

Having read what you wrote on your site about the RNX I guess this is the one to go for as it goes deeper and has a higher break-up point. I could always put a 1st order low pass at 5KHz to help tame the break-up more as well as the xover point at 800Hz.

So what do you think, is the upper-bass going to be okay on the RNX or will it be over bearing?

Okay I have decided I'd like to go for the CA18RNX. Does anybody know where I can get this in the UK?

Or.. how much shipping is from somewhere like Madisound for a pair of drivers like this?
