Hi all,
may I first start by complimenting members for what seems to be a highly functional and helpful site. Thank you. I am interested in learning about speaker design but have little knowledge of physics or engineering. I am slowly learning the terms and have a firm enough grasp on the methodology to realize that I am going to love building some speakers. I would appreciate any direction to basic discussion of the popular speaker designs; what are the pros and cons of 2-way versus 3-way systems? The difference in sound between vented and sealed enclosures? How does efficiency effect sound? I am planning on building a kit to start but would like to eventually be able to test my speakers and learn how to tweak, tune, and design my own. What reading comes recommended for the technically ignorant but enthusiastic novice? Thanks, gary |

Welcome Gary,
I'd suggest Loudspeaker Cookbook by Vance Dickason. The Transmission Line subsection within isn't so good(I have only the 6th Edition). Top class stuff for a beginner to learn. Try to go through the earlier threads in this forum, lots of informative stuff. Happy DIYing & a silent prayer for your partner(if any) Francis |
