Hi,
I'm looking for a suitable replacement for a Dynaudio 21W54 bass driver. They apparently ceased manufacture a few years back and its been suggested the Scan-speak 21W/8555-01 might be suitable. Has anyone identified a good replacement for those drivers? Or perhaps any useful perspectives on the issue? Thanks in advance -- Trevor |

Hi
Not 100% sure for woofers, but tweeters can repaired at Madisound.com. Best bet is call Madisound for advice either on repair or replacement. They may advise you to send the part to the factory in Denmark along with some authorization. I know on the Dynaudio website they say they support their discontinued products.

I just sold my old 21w54s on EBay. Why do you want to replace them?
If you only need new surrounds, go to www.speakerbits.com.au or alternatively check out www.hifisound.de for a brand new replacement driver. The 21w/8555 is 87dB efficiency compared to 92dB for the 21w54 so it's not suitable. |

Hi Fellows,
Thanks for your responses! First I checked with Wilson Audio and they quoted a retail price of $400 per driver (presumabley for whatever they use these days -- can't be the 21W54). Then I spoke with Madisound regarding a possible replacement and they suggested the Scan-speak mentioned above. I had four drivers that needed new surrounds and sent them off for repair last week (Millersound in PA). However, it's always possible something could happen and new drivers could be needed (had to replace four once before do to a preamp problem -- fed DC to an amplifier and fried the coils). I saw the surround kits at SpeakerBits while I was searching for a possible replacement driver. However, HiFiSound is new to me. I guess I would have to send them an email asking if they could suggest a replacement driver. The list of driver suppliers reminds me of Madisound and Solen's in Canada. Thanks -- I'll see what I learn from HiFiSound. -- Trevor |
