Default How many coats of glue/water primer?

I'm building a sub out of MDF and I'm experimenting with a piano finish. I've just brushed on the first coat of primer, (50/50 glue and water), and I'm wondering how many coats y'all typically apply. Is it ideal to sand w/440 or above between coats?

I may be wrong but isn't that a lot of water in with the glue? I wonder if that will cause swelling?

PVA + water mix isn't a great way to seal the cabinets. It works but there's more effective treatments:

Specially formulated MDF primer:

And the best is a resin based wood hardener:

Apply one of those in generous quantities and then sand back smooth with an orbital palm sander and ~400grit paper.

Be prepared for a ton of work and use lots and lots of automotive primer after you've sealed the cabinets with one of the above.

Yep it is rather a lot, more like 1.5:1 is better.

50/50 is the mix that seems to be stated over and over again around these parts. I was concerned about swelling as well but it actually seems to dry pretty quickly and I can't see any evidence of expansion.

Man, I wish I would've posted something a few hours ago!

Guess I'm pretty committed to glue and water at this point, I'll give it a light sand and give it another coat with a thicker mix.
