Default low end woofers

What is the best approach to take in the low frequency range (~35Hz) ?

I have built my own bookshelves and thought i might just make some dual 6.5" woofer floorstanders and a subwoofer.

I have looked at some of the 15" woofers out there and what not, and saw extreme cases of designs with ~27-31" woofers.

The bookshelves I designed were sealed enclosures and I want to stick with that.

Room size is 12' x 19' (living room)

I'd recommend going with something of your preferred resistance flavour by Adire Audio. Of course, though, I have to ask if you want active/passive because woofer just doesn't sound the same when run passively.

6.8" seems good? first time seeing it

i might just need 1 of those.... not too sure... i suppose i'd get more bass with a tuned ported enclosure? i'd prefer to do sealed but maybe someone could convince me otherwise

Default Subs

Hi,

if You want deep and precise bass I strongly discommend vented enclosures like BR or BP. They donīt give precise bass with very low tuning frequencies. The group delay reaches values which are audible.
Better stick to closed subs with bigger drivers or dipoles. Keep in mind the room gain, which boosts bass response.

Sooo, you want small drivers for the sub??

The Adire Extremis, is really, EXTREME, I love it. I'm using one in my frined's Jeep and, soon to be another added in parallel. They are very good woofers and are very reliable under the abuse of the automotive environment.

Not necessarily small... just I wasn't sure if they offered a better solution than a very large woofer

15" woofer versus 6.8" extremis....

the dayton hi fidelity 12" seems like the best cost/benefit ratio of what i've seen
