Just wondering what is recomended for diy inductor varnishing.
I'm thinking diluted estapol to seep though the windings and lock them in place. |

I'm not familiar with estapol, but whatever you use, you should make sure it doesn't attack the insulation on the inductor wire.

Does your GF have 11.2896 MHz crystals? Try transformer impregnating stuff. Go to a motor winding work shop. |

I've used polyester and epoxy resins in the past with good results.

P.M - Estapol - Wattyl brand timber varnish - available in water and oil based.
E.K - It's about the only xtal she doesn't have !. ![]() Had thought about transformer varnish, used to work for Climax electric, (manuf. and supply of transformers etc.) God I hated doing core cutting, hot humid and boring. Was young so never cared about what was being used, just wanted my pay packet. (was actuall cash in an envelop back then) P. - wasnt sure if they would be 'thin' enough to penetrate to my satisfaction. (fussy bugger) EDIT; huh, didn't think the bug - ger word would be censored. I've always used varnish for laminating the iron bits on my DIY electric motors and transformers. It's a bit smelly for the first few hours, but then motors produce lots of heat. I always use 5 to 10 coats of varnish.

Mkay, called the place I worked for about 20 years ago, and they are happy to give me 1/2 a litre of transformer varnish.
Just need to go get it. Thanks all for the suggestions......... |
