Default NHT woofers in dipole.

Has anyone used the 10" (or the 12", for that matter) NHT drivers in a dipole woofer? If so, how much aerodynamic and mechanical noise did they produce at high excursions?

Have you already tried them ?
I have a couple of the 12 inchers but have been hesitating because of the shape of the frame. Not so easy to mount the way I want to. I was actually more interested in the Ripole design. Wonder if anyone has tried that one.
Cheers.

No, I haven't tried them, which is why I asked. Have you actually run your 12" drivers in free air just to check on the noise?

The 10" NHTs are about half the price of the Peerles XLS' but I'd like some user reports before I take the plunge.

Just curious, do Ripole drivers also need to be low noise?

One NHT is in a sealed box and works well. However the box is large and so it is a problem keeping it in the living room. The other one is not used yet. I will run it free air and let you know if it's noisy.

I suspect that the Ripole enclosure will act as a HPF and so it 'might' cut down on the noise. I'll have to try it out because no one has mentioned this on the forum. I also have a Classic Peerless 12 inch driver which might be more suitable as a Ripole driver.

If I can get good bass down to 30 Hz I'm happy. I am attracted to Ripoles and Dipoles because they apparently excite less room resonances and so should have cleaner bass AND they don't need a BOX!
Cheers.
