Default Bösendorfer loudspeaker!

Hi!

I saw them, but unfortunately not listened yet! They are fascinating!!

I know only some data:

"Bösendorfer's largest floor standing loudspeaker. Two-way system with two treble speakers, four bass drivers /mid-range speakers and two Acoustic Sound Boards.
frequency response 25 - 27,000 Hz ( ±3 dB)
crossover frequencies 130 Hz*; 2.5 kHz
power rating 180 watts
music rating 360 watts
impedance 4 ohms
operating performance 1.1 watts (for 91 dB/m)
dimensions (h x d x w) 1330 x 403 x 195 mm (52.4" x 15.9" x 7.7")
weight 36.5 kg (80 lbs)
* based on the performance of the HornResonator"

www.boesendorfer.com

Has somebody any idea how this loudspeaker works??

From what i understand they can only reproduce piano music. And preferably played on a Bösendorfer piano. That's what people with taste listen to anyway

I've heard them on the Hifi fair. They impressed me as you get really good sound anywhere in the room. In the sweet spot they were a bit bright.
The concept is basically side firing midrange drivers. That gives the speaker its character. That concept has some drawbacks in regards of neutral sound reproduction.

I am afraid it is not so simple.
Look at that "Acoustic Sound Boards" and the "HornResonator" theory.

The soundboards are for bass reproduction, to get bass out of small drivers (and they are really small). The character of the speakers is affected by the side-firing midranges IMHO.

You did a nice simplification.

So, it is a kind of "kvazi" omnidirektional speaker?

Could you "translate" the HornResonator theory too?

Yes, sort of, but with the drawback that in the sweetspot the treble in "over-present". The question is who needs that. IMO dipoles or ESL's like Magnepan deliver similar but better results.

Sorry no, they tried to explain at the trade fair but it sounded strange to me. But it has also todo with the bass reproduction.

I would also search for the Tornado, a DIY concept that also works with sound board resonators.
