DIY Scan Speak three way speaker

Hi folks,

I'm still looking for a nice speaker, using scan speaks.

This one looks nice:

The D2904/7000 tweeter is really much too expensive but anyway. To replace my current tweeter (Dynaudio Esotar 330D) I need a nice tweeter.

The mid 12M/4631-G00 is also one of my favorite and the 18W/8531-G00 looks also good.

I realy don't know, should I use a 12 or 15 or 18 cm mid in combination with the D2904/7000!?

I listen close to 90% jazz and work with 50 watts from my tube power mono's with EL 34 tubes (Shanling ST-80 classic). So, there is not that much "power".

Is there any other idea?

my current speaker is a modified Dynaudio Gemini. The tweeter is really good. But I miss a deep bass from this speaker (15W75) and I don't want to develop and built a new speaker with these speakers. I want something really new.

If you're building a 3 way, then it's preferable to use a true midrange, rather than a bass-mid. Hence the 12M or 15W would be the driver's of choice. However the 12M has 4 ohm impedance which may be a problem, so the 15W may be more suitable and would allow crossover to your tweeter anywhere from 2.5-5kHz.
As the 15W has good low end performance, a 10" bass driver can be used (eg 25W8565).

For a Seas 3-way I lust after WMTMW with T25CF002 millennium tweeter, W15CY001 midrange and W26FX001. LR4 at 2.5K and 250 with sealed, equalized bass. The W15 will give better dispersion 30* off axis than W18, and allows a higher Xover point that seems to help female vocals. The W15s would have a separate, heavily stuffed enclosure.

I am about to build a pair of AOS Studio 12XLs that use the scan-speak 7000 tweeter. It is a very highly regarded monitor that some say is the best available regardless of price. When I have finshed, I will build the Studio 120 bass unit, also from AOS. This will make a three way loudspeaker (as you wished) in two cabinets (one on top of the other). Very sweet, very flexible. Hard to beat.

IMHO, the Ekta is probably one of the nicest 3-way box designs freely available for DIYers.

If price is a concern, use the XT25 tweeter, with which Troels kindly provides a crossover modification.

The XT25 has very high performance, and you don't have to worry about substituting it for the SS Ring Radiator.

Is now a good time to tell you that I'm in the process of building a pair of modified Ektas ?

No stupidly expensive 7000 tweeter for me.
will be using a 9500, Troels very kindly did a simulation crossover to use the 9500 for me.
He refuses to publish the changes though because as he says
"I will not publish something that is untested"
Which I commend him for.

Just got the timber from the carpenter last night.
So will be maybe a month or two away from being finished.
Only taken SEVEN months to source and aquire needed parts.

yes, your AOS 12XL will be a really fine speaker. I already bought the 24XL. Great, near perfect!
