Default Alignment for Vifa P17SJ-00 6.5"

I'm somewhat pleased as is right now with my Home audio frontstage. I think my midrange/midbass is somewhat lacking though, more the midrange clarity and detail than the midbass (lacking because of enclosure size).

So i want to change some things up a little bit, but still use the passive that i have.

Drivers are Vifa P17SJ-00 6.5", and LPG 26nafm. I love the tweets, very nice and clean, detailed. But i'm just not happy with the mid, but i have no money right now to do what i'd truely like to do, (new midrange, midbass, new xover....i'd like to do a 3way OB tower, or even a regular ported tower)

http://www.partsexpress.com/pdf/297-308.pdf

I'm really wondering what alignment i can use the Vifa's in to get the cleanest, flatest, uncolored response, and open my midrange up alot to give me the clarity and detail i'm looking for.

Right now there in .3cf sealed enclosures. f3 is at 100hz or so, so midbass is lacking significantly. I thought possibly of a .7-1cf ported enclosure ~ 47hz. But i had also thought of an IB alignment, or an OB alignment, but i'm not very sure on the IB or OB if this driver would even work, or i'd have enough cone area to make it worthwhile with a single 6.5" on both sides.

I'm really jsut looking for the cleanest, uncolored, midbass/midrange, but i'd need to have a natural steep roll off to xover for my tempest, as low as possible, which i'm not 100% sure where that would be using the drivers own roll off. Xover point b/w LPG and vifa is around 3k IIRC. Might need to also put in a tweet attenuator of some type to level match them much better, if i did OB or IB.

For IB how wide would the baffle need to be to get down to at least 50-60hz fairly strong?

I had liked the OB thought, because i eventually wanted to try a IB sub setup with a pair of tempests. Probobly going to use my other tempest from my tC, and replace it with a pair of DIYMA 12's.

Or is this driver much more suited to ported or sealed enclosures........How would you use this mid? PE says its intended for use b/w .35-1cf ported, but is there any other alignments i could use to give me just as flat of a FR......What would you do, port it, and if so, what size/tuning?

How about using what you have now in a 3 way setup?

OB takes a lot of work to get it right, making a 6 incher work double duty as W takes away a lot of detail and presence in the way of midband compression and doppler distortions.

Maybe build a woofer enclosure and mate it with a couple of 10" or 12'. Add Biamp with an active crossover. What about this idea?

Woudl the 10" or 12" play specifically midbass duty?

I really like the idea actually, would the 10 need more power than i have on hand ~100w @4ohms, and what would happen with my passive....

Would also like a few driver ideas.

I'm just not sure if my mid has enough midrange detail for me.

The new woofer box would handle 35Hz to around 150-200Hz.
Add a second amp for the woofer with an outboard active crossover, You will also use your existing amp and drive the small 2way. You might think about a bigger box for the 2way
Your sub (is this what you call passive?) could be switched on or off depending on source material and bass preference. I'd would keep it out of the way untill you get the 3 way tweeked in. So with the active filter you can change change Xover points and levels to let the midbass come alive. This is similar to what Im doing.
I have a dual 10" 88l closed box with 325W Fc = 40Hz
and MTM closed box with 120W Fc = 70Hz
Biamp is a huge step up in performance alone.
