Question inductance and Q question

I have a question relating my Ascendant Audio arsenal 12. with my old atlas 12 they recommended different shorting methods to the second coil depending on your application (for low, mid, or high Qts). what could i expect from shorting the second coil on my arsenal? lower inductance im assuming but what happens to the effective Qts (would it be cut in half, root of original, some other formula)? how would different value resistors affect them or would you actually recommend the use of a potentiometer? any suggestions? how would you calculate the Qtc for that sub in a ~1.3cf enclosure. is there a magic number we try and shoot for ever? and could one achieve the desired Qtc with a sub that requires a bigger enclosure in a small box using the potentiometer method? what would you use to measure it then?

Vas/(((Qtc/Qts)^2)-1) gives box size. Invert this as required. Qtc=0.5 to 1 is common (horses for courses).

Try googling measure Qt for instructions.

I am not familiar with this speaker, but decreasing the Q of the fundamental system resonance (if that's what you are asking about) sounds like a good idea if you feel the bass is too strong/loose. Such as when you need to put the unit close to a corner, or in a small room, or when you need to sit against a wall.

Shorting the second voice coil on a DVC driver would act like a electric brake limiting VC movement. You would still get sound much lower levels esp for bass notes. Half power for high notes.
Not sure if this answers your Q.

You might want to take a look at the DVC papers from Adire. Some handy explanations & variations:
