Default Crossover recomendations/enclosure for SEAS W15CH001 and Hiquphon OWI?

Hello,

Does anyone have a xover point recomendation for the SEAS W15CH and the OWI? Would 3khz @ 12dB/8a be good? The CH has the cone breakup at 8khz, so it doesn't need a xover point as low as the W18E001. Any enclosure tips? WINISD says around 19L... What about a free-air/dipole configuration? I only worry about the sensibility of the SEAS, but the Qts 0,42 is a good value for open baffle, don't?

I want to build a bookshelf with this speakers (I already have them) just for tests, because i'm planning to buy the Dave Ellis kit www.ellisaudio.com . My amplification is a 30w EL34, Pentode Push-Pull amp, with Tube preamp using 6sn7's.

Thank you

Guilherme

sreten,

I believe the 2-way Troels completed was with the W15CY.

That is the CY... Does anyone know something about that bookshelf from a user in the forum, that uses the W15CH with JP2 Ribbon tweets?

My apologies! I should have read the article closer.

I have only been to Troels site 1 million times, I should have remembered this speaker.

Hi,

the only difference to the W15CY is higher Qts, 0.42 to 0.36.

The parameters indicate a sealed box of 7.5L to 10L is suitable.

Didn"t work with. My calculations.

Bass-reflex.
Vb=10.2 liter netto
Fb=41.4 Hz
Dt=30 mm
Lt=115 mm

x-over. you must "catch it" really low, mid-bass with 6 dB at 600-650 Hz (-3 dB). Maybe RCL for resonant peak of the cone at 8 kHz. Because od that, you need tweeter that can go really low, about 1500-1600 Hz lowest. Some Scan-Speak or Seas 28 mm soft-dome. Tweeter with 12 or 18 dB/oct. at 2 kHz (- 3 dB).
If you go higher with cut-off freq. bass will be "tiny", because of higher SPL of the mids. Balans is everything.
Beauty and the curse of 2-ways.

Hello,

Thanks for the help!

I'm using the speakers in a old enclosure that I have here. This enclosure is Bass Reflex, very simple (no internal bracing) with aprox 18L and 6cm L x 5cm D port lenght.

The sound is very good. Deep bass for a 5'' speaker, and very good middle and midbass. The crossover is 12dB/8a 2,5khz.

I'll build a decent enclosure (with bracing, heavyer) and I'd like to know how people are using this midbass.

The CH is quite different from the CY, not just the higher QTS.

Anybody did work with the W15CH001?

Hi,

for simple box tuning the parameters needed are Fs, Vas and Qts.

According to Seas site Fs = 38 Hz and Vas = 14L for both drivers.
