My mate works in a disco repairshop, and he always gives me anything old, damaged or cheap.

Yesterday he gave me a GAUSS 12 inch bass driver, rated 300w rms,8 0hm.It has a huge magnet, and gold push terminals, paper cone, and plasicised cloth surround,White frame. Also their is a weird heatsink-like cover which screws onto the magnet.I think i could actually be a heatsink, because it has metal fins.
One thing which really puzzles me is NO VENTED POLE PIECE on a 300 watt rms made by Gauss. Why would this be either the magnet cover is really a large heatsink,or the speaker is very old.
I think it might be old because of the white frame[chassis],but the magnet is a normal ferrite ceramic type.
Could someone please tell me the model no.,just by my description.
It amazingly works brillant for a speaker for free, but i don't know whether it will withstand testing it at high volume for hours.
Also it's extremely heavy[about 12kg] magnet and frame.
Does anyone know whether GAUSS is good like JBL,Fane,Eminence,Celestion,RCF,EV,PD, or any other well known pa/disco driver.
Thanks...... Tom
