Just started paper work of my new project on Eton 5-880/25hex+25sd1 in MTM configuration.
Calculated in BassBox6Pro ported volume for two midbass is 12 liters with Fb52Hz. Box would be made from 18mm ÔÀÍÅÐÀ, maybe front baffle from 18mm ÔÀÍÅÐÀ +12mm MDF. Your suggestion? Driver put together as closer as possible. I do not wont crossover in critical range. I see frequency response, it seems that 5-880/25hex works to on axis 5kHz (unfortunately I do not have off axis freq. response) then started to beam on 6.5kHz. So I think to crossover midbass on 4.5kHz with 2th order. Your suggestion? And make series resonance LCR network to low down beaming on 6.5kHz, I do not how to calculate this kind of network, so your help would be appreciated. If I cross on 4.5kHz far away from tweeter resonance (1kHz), so I try to cross tweeter with just one condenser 1th order. Coming one more new project on Eton ER4+4-300/25+7/360/37 in TMBB.

Hi goodspeaker.
The 25 sd1 ETON have a nice response curve. I like the HEXACONE technology of the 5-880/25 Hex ETON. What x-over are looking at? Would you like, say a 12dB (second order) 2k5Hz with no attenuation because you are using 2 mid-bass of 87dBs (+/- 90dB) and the tweeter is 90 dB SPL. Why are trying to cross the tw with one cap only? I have a graph that shows that this MiD-WO doesn't work properly after 3K. Conservative limits are on the 2K16 anyway with maxs at 4Ks. Regards |

Hi,
With only a cap for first order x-over, the resonance of the tweeter interferes with x-over response even at 4k and more. X-over freq. 2kHz second order. -Wo. ETON 5-880.25hex-8, 88dB@2k, x2(+/-3dB) (atention: wo. w/erratic behaviour after 3k because of rigid Hexacones) -Tw. ETON 25sd1-8, 90dB (flat frequency response from 900Hz to 20kHz) Inversion polarity for tweeter because of 2.order x-over. A) With this one you get a very nice and 'slim' x-over but the HF from the tweeter must be to high for about 0.5dB or so. Parts List: Capacitors C1 = 18 uF C2 = 6.8 uF Inductors L1 = 0.91 mH L2 = 0.35 mH Resistors R = n.a. R1 = n.a. R2 = n.a. B) So I would trim that (HFs) with this (one x-over): See that L1 changed and we added a resistor R in series w/C1 to the mid-woofer x-over circuit. We have now some attenuation also for the tweeter. Parts List: Capacitors C1 = 18 uF C2 = 6.8 uF Inductors L1 = 0.82 mH L2 = 0.35 mH Resistors R = 0.47 Ohms R1 = 0.22 Ohms R2 = 200 Ohms (Tw. Atten. –0.3dB) or: R1 = 0.33 Ohms R2 = 100 Ohms (Tw. Atten. –0.5dB) (flat tweeter 0dB) R1 = 0.47 Ohms R2 = 82 Ohms (Tw. Atten. –0.7dB) R1 = 1 Ohms R2 = 47 Ohms (Tw. Atten. –1dB) R1 = 1 Ohms R2 = 33 Ohms (Tw. Atten. –1.5dB) R1 = 1.5 Ohms R2 = 27 Ohms (Tw. Atten. –2dB) C) If the two woofers and the tweeter (flat tweeter 0dB) have about the same acoustic pressure (dB SPL) YOU CAN USE THIS ONE: Parts List: Capacitors C1 = 18 uF C2 = 8.2 uF Inductors L1 = 1 mH L2 = 0.35 mH Resistors R = n.a. R1 = 1 Ohms R2 = 33 Ohms That might help anybody using etons. There are a few x-overs on the Eton website but (I would not use them) I think they are not appropriate for this situation, only as an idea. |

Wait, sorry guys.
That is for one (1) Eton speaker (woofer). For two (x2 in series) you just have to change components: Parts List: Capacitors C1 = 9.1 uF (one half from previous) C2 = 8.2 uF Inductors L1 = 2 mH (double from previous) L2 = 0.35 mH Resistors R = n.a. R1 = 1 Ohms R2 = 33 Ohms In the figure the horizontal line where the two freq. responses cross is the -3dB line. |

Not much help here either.
http://ldsg.snippets.org/vendors/eton.php I think that GR Research had an MTM with those drivers.
