Hey all,
I want everyone to know I am extremely appreciative of any feedback I get. Please do forgive any stupidity or ignorance you may read in my thread. Ok, I am embarking on my first DIY speaker project and I know I want to build a dipole speaker and a sealed speaker which will be powered with 6-channels and actively crossedover with a DCX2496 and EQ'ed with a DEQ2496. I have heard John K.'s NaO with the dual W18E and I thought it sounded great! Prior to that listening experience I heard his Martin-Logan Monoliths and some Quad ESLs which both impressed me slightly more than the NaO. With this speaker project, I would like to obtain the sound of the NaO the best I can and ultimately cure my fancy for the ESL sound. With that said, I was thinking of building Troels Acapella using the W18EX and switching in and out a LCY130 and JP2 for sh*ts and giggles. Or I can build my own version of the NaO with a ribbon tweeter opposed to the Millennium or 27TDFC. Whatever path I take, I will be building a sealed speaker and a dipole speaker allowing more versatility for my music listening. What do you guys suggest I do? For mids, I want to use the W18EX and the W18NX which I have in-hand. For tweeters, I want to use the LCY130 and Fountek JP2 in one design and some Hiquphon OW4 in the other. I have all these speakers in-hand as well. Please help me choose which drivers to use with which speaker. I am willing to purchase another pair of either driver if the suggestions lead me toward a MTM design. I really like to play my music at loud levels so that is an important characteristic. Also, I plan on using (2) Peerless 8" XLS 830491 per side for the dipole speaker and the sealed speaker I was planning on making a 2-way and incorporating some Dayton RSS265HF-4 10" subwoofers later. If you have got this far, thank you so much for reading this thread! Sorry it is so long!! |

Since you've got all the drivers and equipment, might as well make a few baffles and tweak til you're satisfied.
Just a week ago, I was asking for opinions on 'velvety' drivers, now I'm getting near velvety with the dayton rs mids and the seas tweeters in my setup. All thanks to the dcx and the deq. |

sqlkev,
I am going to do a search for your post about searching for that 'velvety' sound. i am interested in your design! Thank you for the reply! I agree with your suggestion to test all of the drivers and to see what my tastes prefer. With that said, I would like to know what others would do if testing each driver was out of the question. |

Maybe the B&G Neo 8 and Neo 3 PDR in combination with W18EX or NX could be a little more ML-like in character?
