I have some old DIY speakers that I'm thinking about upgrading. I started another post about the mid/tweeter replacement here . I've pretty much decided on the Peerless HDS 152 and Seas 27TDC for the mid and tweeter, with the crossover described here .
But now I'm thinking about replacing the woofers too. Currently these cabinets are 100 litre sealed boxes. I'm looking at the NHT1259 and the Dayton RSS315HS. The NHT looks very good in a 100 litre sealed box. The Dayton looks okay, but looks much better in a vented box. But the port (tuned to 21Hz) is very large, and would decrease the box volume. Any thoughts? Any other drivers I should be considering? |

Most programs and recommendations for port diameter exaggerates the necessary dimensions. You´ll be fine with two 3" ports. Also, standard port calculations will give you a too low tuning. See http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/vent_tuning.htm
BTW, I´d go for the NHT in a closed box.. |
