I'm using a pair of SuperZero's as my computer speakers but would like to upgrade them a little. I saw a post by someone looking to upgrade their Zero's with a new mid. I wouldn't mind upgrading everything and just keeping the box as the form factor works for my desk.
I don't need super low response as I have a sealed 10" sub under my desk. Also output doesn't need to be tremendous since they'll be on my desk and within 2 feet of my head. So far I've seen suggestions for CSS WR125 or Seas L12 for the mid. What concerns me is that the cutout for the mid on the Zero doesn't appear to be a perfect circle or a truncated cutout. Maybe its not worth the trouble? If not maybe upgrading the crossover? I've read of upgraded networks before, but haven't had any luck finding them. Any ideas? I'm a total noob, but am willing to use these as my guinea pig. Power is coming from a Sharp SD-111EX integrated amp although I may go Chip amp soon too. TIA! Thanks! |

Consider yourself lucky, I would would love to have my SuperZero's at my computer deck! I really do like those speakers.
If you want to build some new speakers, here are some projects: http://206.13.113.199/ncdiyaudio/mar...ence_rs225.htm http://www.lonesaguaro.com/speakers/...7/Cryolite.htm http://www.rjbaudio.com/Microbe/microbe.html Not sure how well just replacing the woofers would work or upgrading the crossover.

Those woofers (used in the loosest sense of the word!) are a superb piece of engineering. If you really want to eviscerate the Super Zeroes, send the old woofers this way!
BTW, my Super Zero upgrade is filling in the midbass and lower bass with additional drivers (I used Dynaudio 17W75s).

Thanks for the links. Those all look cool, but they're just too big. The thing that the SuperZero's have got going for them is ther size. Not only are they narrow, but they're shallow as well. They actually don't look out of place on an Ikea Jerker desk (highly reccommended btw).
I guess I should be happy with what I've got. I do like the sound I'm getting, I think its just a function of me having the same system for a while and wanting to do something to it. The Superzero + Sub combo is actually a nice sounding desktop combo I was just curious to see if I could get more out of it. |
