Two ports in a 2-way bass-reflex speaker

I am thinking of putting in two ports at different frequencies to even out the bass response for a 2-way bookshelf speaker I am building. What are the implications of using 2 ports, instead of 1 port?

Hi,

two staggered tuning ports should be tuned fairly near to each other.

If they are widely tuned, the lower tuned port is basically ineffective,
and the result is esssentially the same as one higher tuned port.

Hi,

two identical ports with length ratio's of 1.4 gives frequency
ratios of ~1.2. e.g. 40Hz and 47Hz, or 47 Hz and 56hz.

The thread indicates if anything the theory to be true,
as the higher tuned port has more effect than the lower.
