Default Paradigm Titan Series 1 Mid/Bass Thiel-Small Measured

I have seen the Titan's mentioned here and elswhere. I own 2 pairs, one Series 1 and one Performance Series...the quality of the Series 1 is way better..cast frame vs. stamped steel ect.

I heavily modded my Series 1 with cab bracing, deadning, better x-over caps,ect.. The little monsters sound pretty amazing with one exception..classic "one-note-johnny" bass typical of a small vented enclosure.

Being impressed otherwise, I decided to analyze the Mid/Bass to see if a TL would be doable. I figured I would post the parameters in case anyone was interested.

Measured...

Sd=126.7 cm2/19.6 in2
Re=3.53
Fs=45Hz
Qms=7.47
Qes=.39
Qts=.371
Vas=64 litre/2.26 ft3 (measured with 9 litre test box)

Derived...

Bl=3.399
Cms=2.771 10(-3)
Mms=4.514 gr.
no=1.45%
SPL=93.6

My test bax was a little small, so I don't trust the Vas, or the derived SPL 100%. I may re-do with a bigger box, but these figures aren't that important for TL design.

Hope this is useful to someone,
Casey

Hi,

given your parameters a reflex in a small box is not on.

I think Vas may be off.

Very possible (probable)...my test "box" was only 9 litre's, too far below the Vas for an accurate measurement I think.

The derived specs came fom the Mathcad T-S worksheets by Martin J. King. When I reversed the process to get Vas from the calculated Bl, it came back with a Vas of around 45 litre's...probably closer.

Since I'm looking at a TL, I'm not to worried about the Vas..I measuered all this the old fashioned oscillator/meter way. Once I get Speaker Workshop all sused out, I will probably give it another go with a proper sized test box.

As far as I understand it Vas largely determines the CSA of a TL.

Someone here I'm sure could put a finer point on it, but I think that it affects the min. CSA, and as long as you don't go to small you'll be ok.

I'm not looking to design anything too radical, basically scaling Martin's Fostex design in his worksheets. Since I'm looking at 3 X Sd for my CSA I think I should be ok.

If anybody can see a error in my thinking, please let me know.
