Default Midrange Replacement

I was looking at the speaker project entitled "Jubilee". The midrange 2" that it includes in the design is no longer available at PE. It was: PEERLESS 821639 2" POLY DOME MIDRANGE 4 OHM

Can you recommend a replacement?

Due to price, replacemnets I've been looking at were:

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=285-010

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=297-415

If not those, what $30> midrange will fill the void in that project?

sreten,

It's hardly fair to come on and say it's a poor design without backing it up.

The Hi-Vi states 350Hz Fs in the manufacturer’s sheet and 800Hz in Parts Express description. If the manufacturer is right (probably), these two drivers look very similar from their specs and only listening to them would reveal their differences. Nevertheless, if I had to decide, I would go with the Hi-Vi just from ‘feeling’ :-)
Regards,
Thalis

So it is frequency # I should be looking at?

What about the cone midranges, will they have a significantly different sound?

I didn't think I'd have to add this question but I guess I do: What are the people's views on the Jubilee setup (those with experience with it)?

All drivers sound different from one another. I think many feel that a dome mid is an acquired taste.

Hi,

true, but really didn't have time to fully answer the question.

I'd be very suspicious of a speaker using a 1st order crossover
for a 2" dome midrange regarding distortion in the lower ranges
of the midrange dome.

I've now spent some time searching for data on the Peerless
driver and can't find any, and to be honest its difficult to back
up my assertion without any data to back it up.

Hi,

on paper the Hi-Vi is the likely better choice because :
It has a flatter response
It has a flatter impedance characteristic
It likely has a nearer sensitivity to the Peerless unit
