Will soon be starting my next speaker project.
Have a question regarding timber. will be buying from here --> http://www.brims.com.au/ Have to decide between 'Brimsboard' or 'Brimsply'. One is ply, other is 7 layer HMR (moisture resistant particle) Want opinions as to which would be better (and why please) Is it worth using the 25mm over the 18mm ? (see above Q) Mainly interested in arguments regarding the sonic properties. Cabinets will be about 1000 h x 230w x 250 d with four braces. Edit; typo... |

I'm an MDF person myself, but given the choice of the 2 brims products you mention - I'd go with the marine ply.
As to sizing, I have my mid-bass bins in 1" (25mm) MDF. The subby is going into 1" MDF, the top box is getting a 1" MDF front panel and 3/4" (18mm) side/back/bracing. If you can afford the extra, then 1" is good (you could used 18mm for the braces even) - and helps when it comes to rounding off the corners of the box. IMHO
