Default torn between shellac and lacquer

Which is better? I tried spraying some shellac on a piece of maple wood and after a few layers, then sanding with 600 grit, then another 2 layers, it looks really nice.

But I heard lacquer is also very good.

Read the above, and decide which you feel more comfortable with. Each has it's own quality, and some finishes look good on one wood, but not so good on another.
