Hello everyone,
I am going to build a loudspeaker-kit and am experimenting with different possible finishes. I am thinking of putting a suede-like finish on the enclosure. I have made used a testing piece of MDF with a hole in it and glued fabric on it. I have attached a photo of the result. Does anyone of you have experience with this? If you go from the front to the back, you'll have a problem with the top, where you will have to cut it precisely, but you can always see the incisions. I am planning to put a piece of metal on top to hide the ugliness. Any tips on finishing this nicely are appreciated. Thanks, Koert |

Do the sides first.
Start at the bottom of speaker(at the edge or the middle of bottom). Go to the sides, then the top, then the other side and back to the bottom. After that fold the edges inside the enclosure. Next do the front, your way is good but I would cut the fabric at the corners. For that you will need a small metal ruler. Glue one edge at a time after the edge is glued use the ruler to cut the corner then fold and glue the next edge. If this is not clear, sent an email |

This suede-like coating would be pretty nice, I probably have to sample this stuff to really appreciate the texture. Where would you buy it, and how much does this stuff cost?
I found a nice fabric in a local fabric shop for 8 euros per meter, so it will cost about 20 euros to cover two speakers. Advantage of a spray-on coating would be that it would be much easier to get the corners right without wrinkles. I made page with my progress so far: http://w.kazed.net:8080/nowhere/space/audio/scirocco Koert |

A colleague has just told me that B&Q sell a suede effect paint (to be confirmed).
