Hi
Does anyone have experience on Scan-Speak D2904/6000-01 tweeter, or 18W/4531G00 woofer? Im planning a small 2-way speaker useing those drivers. The volume on the BR cabinet will be about 27l and tuned to 36Hz. Xo will be passive 3rd order somewhere between 2700-3000Hz. The place of the tweeter is still open. Ill test it on top of the cabinet and infront and as close as possible, to the woofer. First one, so I can pull the tweeter back for phase correction, latter so the sound would come from the same spot. For the latter tweeter positioning, an active Xo would be killer, but the first try will go passive So any comments on the drivers or the project?!? |

Here's a design that utilises the 18W/4531G00. It's reckoned to be a very good unit.
You may want to consider a lower crossover frequency as the off-axis response of the midwoofer drops significantly above 2000 Hz. At 2700 - 3000 you may end up with a very narrow 'sweet spot' at the listening position. |

Thanks for the reply!
Im not sure if the tweeter can go much below 2,5KHz, but guess that would be better than 3K. Any words on the tweeter? Has anyone experimented with a tweeter infront of the woofer? |

The tweeter is relatively flat down to 1000 Hz, but has a resonance at 750 Hz. With a third order filter, a crossover frequency as low as 2000 Hz shouldn't be a problem.

Just remembered last night, that I have a DBX Driverack Pa at work! That would save me a huge pile of euros on the XO proto work. All I need now is 2 amps with balanced ins.
Im getting a C-A P500 in a couple of weeks, but its brand new, and I guess one has to be an idiot, to rip it open straight from the box! 2KHz is worth a try I guess. With the dsp I could pull the tweeter back, on the woofer center positioning! |

Check following webpage: http://home1.stofanet.dk/troels.gravesen/
There you can find some good comments regarding cabinet size for Scan Speaks Sliced Paper drivers. (SP38/13) There is also one two-way project available for 18W/8531G00 with SS tweeter. |

You can't directly compare the 18W/8531G00 ad the 18W/4531G00. Although they're basically different impedance variants of the same driver, some of their parameters are very different., most notably Fs and Vas.
