Hello. I am a newb to all this a didn't quite know what to search for so help me out (I tried a search but just got technical stuff). I was wondering how reputable some brands are, or where I could find a listing or so on this.

I want to build some computer speakers, so I was checking out the only place I know (could you recommend some?) to buy some speakers - partsexpress.com. However, I don't recognize the brands they offer (like Goldwood, pyramid, etc.) Could someone tell me if these are good brands and if their small speakers sound good?

I'm just looking around now and was thinking of making a box with one of their amplifiers you mount to the back of a box and connecting the speakers to that.

Let me know what you think.

If they are just for your computer, do you want some full rangers?

Those two are budget speakers but can still sound good. You might want to check out the Tangband stuff at PE as well. I have used their products and am happy.

Most of those boxes are plate amps. Those are restricted to low frequencies only. There are some full range amps out there for use in active PA speakers but I can't seem to find it on the PE site right now.

Do you recommend full range? I would just have them play my itunes music and the occasional DVD.

I actually did find a tang band I think would work. It was a 3"driver with 110-20K range. I think that will suit me just find until I add a small sub of some sorts.

Thanks for pointing that out about the plate amps. Shame, I really like the options I had with them. So what would you recommend for a full range amp? I'll need 25rms into 8ohms.

Also, whats another place like partsexpress.com?

EAG,

25watts (RMS) @ 8ohm is much more than most economical "computer" speakers come with.

Sells drivers also.

Inexpensive, but a bit large.

Source for drivers/amps.

FYI, TB speakers can be found in brands like Logitech

probably for less than you could build them for.

Cheers,
