I'd like to spend at most $250 on the drivers for these; <$70 on each midbass, and <$30 on each tweeter. The main requirements are bass extension and fast transient response in a small-ish enclosure. The top candidates for midbass are the Hi-Vi D6.8 and the 5.25" Dynavox. I'm probably using the Peerless 811815 as a tweeter, crossed over at ~2 KHz. I can't find much about Dynavox, so I'm leaning towards the Hi-Vi. Which is better for my needs? Keep in mind that I've never designed (though I have built) a crossover before.

Those look good, but I'd like to avoid metal cones.
