Default passive x-over help

After doing much searching and information gathering I can't seem to find a good economical way to do an all active 5.1 setup. So my next step is to design passive x-overs for my already built mains that I have. I understand the basic concept behind passive x-overs (although have never built one) but would like some expert advice for use with the particular drivers I am using. The drivers aredayton reference 6" and the fountek ribbon. I have 4 dayton's reference mids per side in approx 1.5 ft^3 enclosure. If there is any other information I could provide that would be useful let me know.

Howdy,

Did you read the cross-over primer available at partsexpress?

I would advise you do this, then, follow the other links available that will help you to design either a 6dB or 12dB crossover-over for your particular needs.

Or, you could purchase an active cross-over unit, pretty inexpensively, and be able to "taylor" the sound to your liking.

already looked into going active but unless I'm not understanding it correctly to do an all active 5.1 setup like these speakers will primarily be used for it will be a pain in the butt.

You click on "dayton-fountec.gif" - and then to get a large picture click on last underlined sentence - or maybe this works better

There is a company that makes a 5.1 cross-over I believe it's called a bjou (spl?) it's made by audio control.

dont know if this helps or not.

hello, so i went ahead and built tinitus's design for my drivers and am pretty happy with the sound except the tweeter is a little loud for the midrange. So my question is what is the best way to remedy this? Should i buy a premade l-pad from parts express to be able to attune the tweeter to the level i want, or is there an easy circuit to add to the crossover?

Another question i could use some help on is that i have many dayton reference 6 inch speakers lying around that i would like to use for surrounds for my HT setup. I was looking at dr k's mtm which uses the 7" version of the dayton reference and the reference tweeter. What if any modifications would you guys suggest to the crossover to be able to substitute the 6" version's that i have available onhand?

btw thanks a million for the crossover schematic tinitus it opened a door to passive x-overs to me and showed me that it wasn't as complicated as i thought it was.
