Default Three way Scan Speak Design

Dear all,

I have constructed the Ref.Monitors for Scan-Speak drivers (audiocomponents.nl) but I wish to add some extra bass. The sound is a bit on the hard side and I think that some extra bass will smooth the sound a bit.
I have three options:

1)Build the Reference Monitor + version from the same site.
What do you think about this design. Has anyone made it. Has anyone heard it?
2)Build a subwoofer for each speaker, like the project named “Critical Q Sub” that one can find on the net
3)Build a three way speaker using the drivers that I have (SS9900, SS8546) and buying an extra one for the lows. I have searched for such a loudspeaker but could not find any plans on the net.

Finally I have another question.
Between options 1 and 2 what are the disadvantages-advantages of each solution. The subwoofers will be active.

Thanks
George

Rather than looking at adding bass to cover up the problem, I'd be looking at the crossovers for your existing system. A hard sound is usually down to issues in the upper midrange.

PinkMouse,

You are correct. Rolph from audiocomponents.nl has suggested I change the series resistor for the tweeter from 4.7 Ohms to 5,6 Ohms or change the parallel resistor to 15Ohms.
I will be doing these modifications soon, but I was wondering if a subwoofer would give me better results in medium listenings levels. I dont like my music played very loud.

Thanks

So did you do the mods and if so which did you do.
I am looking at building a set of the Ref Monitors and am interested in any info I can find.

Cheers

Geoff

I have not made the modifications. I have a problem with the exterior finishing of my cabinets.
