Hi,

After the excellent explanation provided by Scottmoose on the TL work sheets here,

http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=70862&perpage=10&pagenumber=3

there is really no excuse not to try out some designs. My starting point is the thor. I checked out the excel drivers here and thought otherwise ¡V the drivers are not cheap and the only shop that sells them is not particularly helpful. So I have my eyes on these two fellas from scanspeak:
S2905/970000
18S/8535-00
Turns out they are cheaper and, from the graphs at least, have flatter response than the excels. I also see Scottmoose¡¦s point about the folded pipe design of the thor and so I opt for a MTM arrangement in a MLTL box with the port at the bottom front.

L=42¡¨(1067mm)
So=Sl=4Sd
Where Sd=145cm2 , 4Sd=580cm2
So the cross section is 189mmx307mm for a golden section.
The SPL is lower, but the roll off is similar.

Here is another attempt with 970000 and a different mid/bass driver:
15S/8531K01
The box design is a MTM.

L=48¡¨(1219mm)
So=Sl=2.8Sd
Where Sd=2x95cm=190cm, 2.8Sd=532cm
That makes 181mmx294mm for a golden section.
Now the last two boxes are more or less the same size and the roll off is similar.
The problem is I have not got a chance to actually LISTEN to drivers. Am I to believe that the 5 1/4¡¨ driver can pump the bass as well as the 6 1/2¡¨. Anyway, the logical choice here seems to be the S2905/970000 + 1x18S/8535-00 if I can live with a SPL of 87dB. But I¡¦m told that the 15S is a smoother operator. So if I¡¦m to choose an all rounder then it is not so clear cut, money aside. Is there anything else I missed or should be considering? Glad to hear from the more experienced.
Cheers,
K K
