What is an underhung design? Does this mean the VC is shorter than the gap?

I believe that one of the primary advantages of an underhung voice coil is that when driven to extreme excursion, the voice coil always remains fully in gap. Thus, even when driven hard, the moving voice coil never travels out of the magnetic influence of the gap, thus the performance of the driver remains consistent from lower to higher levels. In contrast, an overhung voice coil, when driven hard, will travel out of the gap and behave less predictably as the coil leaves the magnetic gap.
