Question 6.5" Peerless HDS-Nomex vs Vifa XG18 glassfibre

Hi all,

Has any one done any distortion, Cumulative Spectrum Decay or any other independent tests on the Peerless HDS-Nomex 6.5" (830875)

In particular I would like to compare it to the Vifa XG18

I've got the datasheets, which are not as thorough as I'd like.

I'm most interested in measurements but I'm open to reasoned personal opinions on highlights or problems with either.

Also has anyone got any comments on the Peerless Nomex vs Polypropylene-Black range

I have used the hds 6.5". It was pretty easy to make it sound good (did not shape its response with sub), but I cut it off at 85 Hz to the sub. There are some tests of the exclusive 7" kicking around here if you do a search on this site (it is only an ip address so I always forget it).

Mazurek,

you might be referring to Mark K's test of the 830833 : http://206.13.113.199/ncdiyaudio/mar...xclusive_7.htm
I don't recall seeing a test of the 830875 yet. Maybe its out there.
Hope this helps.

Cheers,

AJ

Thanks guys,

I did see both Mark K's and Zaph's measurements. I guess I may have to buy and test the Peerless myself!

if you do, will you share the results. You'd think there would be more info on peerless drivers/projects then there is given that they have such a user friendly response curve and good distortion.

I have a comparison up now with the XG18 and the peerless, along with the old budget standby, the RS180.

For a 2 way, no doubt the peerless is a better performer than the XG18, because of it's poor low end performance.

As a midrange, it's much tougher to decide. I'd lean towards the Peerless, but it's a close call in a three way.

I think he's talking about the non-exclusive non-phaseplug non-ugly color version. I think that version is missing some copper in the motor somewhere, it's 32 ohms at 10kHz.

so what is better, the old Peerless Nomex or the Peerless Exclusive Nomex? Is it worth the extra cost to go for the exclusive? there doesn't seem to be much difference, and the new Peerless looks ugly.

The HDS-Nomex and Exclusive Nomex are both new drivers. The "old" Nomex are likely the 830378, a shielded driver with a pincushion style frame. Those have been discontinued long ago.

Without even testing the HDS-Nomex, I'm confident the Exclusive nomex has a better motor.
